The studies on bio-efficacy of DOR Bt, a Bacillus thuringiensis formulation against rice leaf folder, Cuaphalocrosis mediualis (Guenee) in Punjab were conducted for three years) during 2005 to 2007, Three dosages of DOR Bt (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 Kg/ha) were applied on appearance of the pest and were compared with chemical control (monocrotophos 36 SI. @1.4 l/ha) and untreated control. After 45 days of transplanting the lowest mean incidence (1.38%) was recorded in higher dose (2,0 kg/ha) of DOR Bt followed by monocrotophos (l.44%) and incidence in these two was significantly lower than all other treatments. After 60 days of transplanting the lowest mean incidence (1.08%) was observed in monocrotophos, which was significantly lower than all other treatments except higher dose (2,0 kg/ha) of DOR Bt (1.11%), which was also significantly lower than all other treatments. The maximum mean yield (61.12 q/ha) was harvested from monocrotophos which was also significantly higher than all other treatments except higher dose (2.0 kg/ha) of DOR Bt (60,75 q/ha). Significantly lower yield was obtained from control plot (53,81%). It can be concluded that DOR Bt @ 2.0 kg/ha was as effective as monocrotophos 36 St. @ 1,4 l/ha in controlling the rice leaf folder and increasing the grain yield of rice.Keywords

Eleven isolates of Bacillus thuringiensis were morphologically and biochemically characterized and evaluated for iasecticidal activity against Plutella xylostella Linnaeus under field-cum-laboratory conditions. All the isolates were gram positive, rod shaped, spore forming and showed typical colony morphology with mucoid or glistening surfaces having entire edges and density ranging between translucent to opaque. Glucose was fermented by all the cultures only with acid production. Xylose and Mannitol were fermented by Bt d and Bt VK isolates, respectively. All cultures were catalase positive, oxidase positive, nitrate reducing (except Bt d), degraded tyrosine, hydrolysed casein and starch and utilized citrate as a carbon source. Results of bioassay studies revealed that four isolates, namely, Bt 5, 4D4, Bt 9 and MTCC 868 caused complete mortality of the second instar larvae of Plutella xylostella within 96 hours at uniform concentration of 109 spores/ml.Keywords

Effectiveness of bioformulations was tested against pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) in mungbean during Kharif 2015 and 2016 at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Among the bioformulations the per cent pod damage and yield varied from 21.43 to 24.49 per cent and 5.50 to 8.53 q/ha respectively. During Kharif 2016, per cent pod damage and yield varied from 12.00 to 15.69 per cent and 6.30 to 9.33 q/ha respectivley. The chemical treatment Chlorpyrifos 20 EC (3.75 l/ha) was most effective in terms of pod damage reduction and yield of mungbean. The Bt formulations PDBC-BT1 and NBAIR-BTG4 (2%) and both doses of Delfin WG (1 and 2Kg/ha) were equally effective in controlling the H. armigera pod damage when compared to Chlorpyrifos 20EC. Myco Jaal (commercial formulation of Beauveria bassiana) was not effective in controlling the pod borer as compared to B. thuringiensis formulations in mungbean. The B. thuringiensis formulations Delfin (commercial) and PDBC/NBAIR (2%) effectively reduced the pod damage by H. armigera in mungbean and can be integrated in IPM programme for pulse crop protection.Keywords
